Why It’s Popular
The success of video marketing essentially boils down to two things: laziness and visuals. People are busier now than ever before, and therefore don’t have the time, energy or willpower to read page after page of an article or blog post. They want something they can learn from without exerting more effort than is absolutely necessary. The internet has made it possible for them to find information in a matter of seconds, and so why would they put in more work than they need to? No matter how brilliant and well-crafted a blog post is, people skim and skip to the parts they find most intriguing. A short video showing off your services is far more likely to hold their attention for longer. This is partially because it’s easier to watch something than it is to read it, but there really is something to be said for visual learning. You can write about that s’mores pie all day, but watching that chocolate melt is more powerful than any description could be.
What You Need to Know
Length. These videos get as popular as they do because they are short enough that people want to watch, but long enough that they get all the information across. The ideal length for one of these videos ranges from around 30 seconds to one minute. Always consider your audience and the story you’re telling, but remember that most people are watching these videos on their lunch breaks or during their morning commutes. A 4-5 minute video feels like a lot more of a commitment, which is why the shorter videos tend to have significantly higher views.
Be interactive. Get the information right and make videos on topics that people care about and will want to watch. It’s important to make sure your audience is engaged, so make sure the message pertains to them and interests them. Short tutorials and educational clips are a great way to engage your customers with something that can directly benefit them.
Take advantage of the programs and tools. There are dozens of video builders out there, many of which offer free trials and come with hours of footage to choose from. Check out programs like Biteable, Showbox, Animoto and even Flipagram.
Post on more than one platform. This almost goes without saying, but it’s important to note anyway. You work hard on these videos. Show them off! You can upload them to YouTube and share the link on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram, or you can upload the video directly to the platform depending on how long it is.
Video marketing is more complex than it might seem, but it’s important to tackle it and take advantage of it. A catchy headline and a great thumbnail and you’re on your way to becoming a master of video marketing on social media.
